Seattle Sends Reliever Mark Lowe To Toronto
The Toronto Blue Jays made a move Friday to solidify their bullpen by acquiring right-hander Mark Lowe from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for three minor league pitchers.
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports first reported that the sides were progressing toward a deal, and Chris Cotillo of SB Nation first reported the agreement. Toronto has also acquired Troy Tulowitzki and David Price at the deadline so far and may be adding an outfielder before the 4 PM deadline.
Lowe, a 32-year-old right-hander, has a 1.00 earned-run average with 37 strikeouts and 11 walks in 36 innings.
Seattle obtained Nick Wells and Jacob Brentz and Rob Rasmussen. Toronto explored different relievers (together with Jonathan Papelbon) on the commerce market however look like making a lesser transfer. He’s now on track to hit free agency after the 2015 season, his tenth as a major leaguer.
Wells, 19, was a starter for Bluefield this year in the Appalachian League, posting a 1-2 mark with a 4.78 ERA in seven starts.
Lowe, 32 was in the midst of a remarkable season with Seattle and fits the need of a Toronto club (52-51) with a super-charged offense but a lack of decent pitching.
Rasmussen, 26, is 4-1 with one save and a 2.36 ERA in Triple-A Buffalo.
