The Clinton Foundation is reportedly laying off dozens of people
Despite assertions that full-time C.G.I. employees will retain their positions and benefits through the end of the year, a number of staffers are either looking for or have already accepted new positions elsewhere, Politico reports.
Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential candidate, has faced scrutiny over reports that many people Clinton met with while she was serving as the U.S. secretary of state were individuals who made donations to the foundation.
A meticulous new study finds that major broadcasters appear to be shielding Hillary Clinton and her campaign for the White House, even as questions about her family foundation continue to emerge.
‘We informed CGI staff of this transition more than four months before the end of the year, and have provided information about CGI-related roles that will continue, ‘ the spokesman said.
Emails released from Clinton’s time as secretary of state in recent months have shown that a top foundation aide discussed employment for another foundation aide with the State Department. Some Clinton Foundation allies, however, worry that these ongoing relationships could leave the charity open to criticism.
The Clintons have sought to allay concerns by announcing last month that the foundation will no longer take foreign and corporate money if Hillary Clinton is elected, and that Bill Clinton will step down from the foundation’s board and cease fundraising efforts for it if his wife is elected. “But look back after 11 years and see what the aggregate is”, the former president said. “And I trusted the State Department wouldn’t do anything they shouldn’t do, from a meeting to a favor”.
“I really think they should make a clean break, and apparently so do most staff”, the official added.
He insisted the conference wouldn’t work without corporate sponsorships and global participation (foreign donors?), and “I learned already in this election that some people were subject to a presumption of guilt just because they were participating”, Clinton said.
Donald Trump, Clinton’s Republican opponent for the presidency, has called for a special prosecutor to investigate allegations of breaching government ethics rules.
It remains unclear how far the Clinton Foundation will go to avoid the appearance of conflicts of interest, should Hillary Clinton win in November. And the exact operations of the foundation have not been defined. “While it would be presumptive to assume a victory in November, now that Hillary is her party’s nominee, it would be irresponsible not to plan for it”, Clinton wrote.
