Kevin Garnett expected to announce retirement Friday
In Boston, Kevin Garnett would team with longtime Celtic Paul Pierce and the newly-acquired Ray Allen to form a new “Big 3” in Beantown. He led the league in rebounding four straight seasons between 2003 and 2007 and he is a lock for the Hall of Fame. He narrated the short, black-and-white video that shows him walking alone through Target Center with sunglasses on. I never would’ve thought that people would love me like this. But, for it to be reality is something else.
It ends with Garnett saying “We going to be all right, man”. But so far so good. The waiver will see him paid the full amount.
As a fan of the game, thank you for the memories.
The news comes with the Timberwolves first training camp under coach Tom Thibodeau set to begin on Tuesday.
Garnett posted the video on Friday amid reports he and the Timberwolves had reached a deal on a buyout of his $8 million contract for the upcoming season.
In departing, he follows long tenured veterans Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan out of the National Basketball Association.
Kevin Garnett is retiring from the National Basketball Association after 21 seasons. He would play a few more seasons and then eventually buy into the franchise, perhaps even owning a large portion of it with his buddy Flip.
The 15-time All-Star ranks 17th with 26,071 career points, ninth in career rebounds with 14,662 and 17th in blocked shots with 2,037. He averaged 3.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 38 games last season. He and the team are apparently in early talks on a contract settlement!
Doc Rivers would have had interest in the Los Angeles Clippers signing Kevin Garnett had he made a decision to continue his playing career with a team other than the Minnesota Timberwolves. “That”s my past and I”m in a new chapter if my life.”. He later helped return the Boston Celtics to glory, winning a championship in 2008. After the 2012-13 season Garnett was traded to Brooklyn. He’s not one of a kind once every other day or week.
“I am,” he said when asked about being in Minnesota for the long haul. “I’m so proud he will always be a Celtic champion”. “That has been my goal since I became a Wolf.”.
Garnett’s main task had been to serve as a mentor to guys like Karl-Anthony Towns, who might someday surpass Garnett as the best player in Wolves history, along with Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine. If you don’t know how to throw someone off their game watch KG do it. This is the flawless situation.
Garnett was visibly upset when told Sam Mitchell would not be retained. He last played January 23 vs. Memphis, then missed the rest of the season with knee soreness. “Things have changed so much and does he still want to do that?” Maybe he’s joining the Timberwolves front office? Two years ago, Garnett said his ultimate goal was to own the Timberwolves.
