The Spain worldwide has made just three substitute appearances in the league since Conte’s arrival, leading to speculation that his time at Stamford Bridge is drawing to close.
“John didn’t recover from his injury and he is still working [on his recovery]”, Conte revealed at a press conference at Cobham Training Centre.
“I think that for Cesc, it is a special game for him”, Conte said.
Speaking ahead of the game, Conte stated that the nature of the game is enough motivation for any player. For him, sure, it will be a special game”.
Chelsea captain, John Terry, has been ruled out of his side’s Premier League clash with London rivals, Arsenal, on Saturday.
‘Something from inside of me is coming out that is stronger than ever and I feel like a little boy training trying to win my spot back, as I used to do at Arsenal when I was 16’. “I don’t know [when he will be back] because, in this case, it is important to be patient for what the player feels and all the pain that he feels”.
“John didn’t recover from his injury”, said Conte.
It is hoped he and fellow central defender Kurt Zouma, who injured his anterior cruciate ligaments, will soon return to training. “It is normal when you start the work in a new team and you bring a new idea and methods that you need time, but I am confident about this and we trust in the work and I know we can improve a lot”.
‘Possibly, yes. Possibly. Probably, yes. We will wait one more week.
