Man served 16 years in prison for wife’s death
Police say a man apparently asphyxiated his two young children using exhaust from a vehicle, fatally shot his wife’s two older children and shot and slashed his wife at a suburban Detroit home. He then waited on the porch for police to arrive, the station reports.
The suspect’s 17-year-old stepdaughter and 19-year-old stepson were shot in the home’s basement, according to WDIV.
Police say Faith Green is the mother of all four of the children who died. “He seemed like a very good guy”.
The circumstances of the crime scenes in 1991 and Wednesday are morbidly similar.
According to law enforcement, the man in custody is the biological father of the youngest children and stepfather of the older children.
A man called police around 1 a.m. Wednesday to the home in the 4400 block of Hipp Street, which is near Annapolis and Pelham streets.
Green’s wife, Faith Green filed for divorce from him in August, according to Wayne County Circuit Court records. “He completed several cognitive-based programs and was paroled in 2008”, Gautz said.
Green, 49, also is accused of killing his and his wife’s young daughters by carbon monoxide poisoning at the home.
Chris Gautz, a spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections, Green acted similarly in 1991 when he called police to tell them he had killed his then-wife at the couple’s Detroit home.
Krause said “some sort of domestic dispute” preceded the killings.
Killed were Gregory V Green’s stepdaughter, Kara Allen (left) and 19-year-old stepson Chadney J Allen (right). Michael Petri, who along with Police Chief Lee Gavin, headed a news conference at the Dearborn Heights Police Department late Wednesday morning.
Faith has been taken to the hospital and we’re told her condition is improving.
Police said they are still investigating the crimes.
Police have not said what the motive was. Neighbors described the family as quiet and hardworking.
Green only had one infraction in prison. “Most of the neighbors around here, they’ll wave or something”.
Birthday decorations could be seen hanging off a white awning at the family’s home, and a small pool and bench swing were situated nearby. She also filed for divorce in 2013 but the case was dismissed for lack of action.
Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko said he can’t remember anything of this magnitude ever happening during his 45 years with the city.
Police said they expect to release more details as the investigation progresses.
“It’s devastating for the community”, he said. “I don’t understand what happened in this house, but it’s a super tragedy”.
