Donald Trump Jr. Compares Syrian Refugees To Skittles, Candy Company Responds
Donald Trump Jr. was widely condemned Monday on social media for his tweet comparing poisoned candy to Syrian refuges.
The comparison was rejected by Democrats and even the company that manufactures Skittles. “We don’t feel it’s an appropriate analogy”, Denise Young said.
Jason Miller, a spokesman for Trump, said the candidate’s son Donald Jr.
Donald Trump has called for a suspension of the Syrian refugee resettlement program, charging that it endangers USA national security.
Donald Trump, Jr., posted a message on Twitter likening the refugees to a bowl of skittles.
While Skittles have a surprising history as a vessel for political speech, it is the analogy surrounding the colorful candy that has the most problematic past. He also says, in bold: “Please do not use my images for any goal, commercial or otherwise (this includes linking from your blog or website), unless you have my written permission”.
He added: “Speaking the truth might upset those who would rather be politically correct than safe, but the American people want a change, and only Donald Trump will do what’s needed to protect us”.
His father has advocated sharply restraining immigration and has accused opponent Hillary Clinton of advocating acceptance of thousands of refugees.
A spokeswoman for Wrigley, the owner of Skittles, promptly replied to Trump Jr.’s inappropriate analogy, stressing that “Skittles are candy. We respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing”.
Other Trump campaign higher-ups also on Tuesday defended Trump Jr.’s comments. In the wake of the current refugee crisis-the largest in recent history-the U.S. and Europe have grappled with how to respond. You’re right, they’re way too risky. “The answer is no”.

“America has become less safe under Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and Clinton’s planned 550 percent increase in Syrian refugees is a unsafe proposal that will put American lives at risk”, the campaign’s senior communications adviser, Jason Miller, said in a statement. He is not sure whether he will bring legal action against the Trump campaign. This would be in addition to the tens of thousands of refugees accepted from around the world every year.
