Heavyweight title rematch between Fury, Klitschko called off
Tyson Fury’s rematch with Wladimir Klitschko is reportedly on the brink of being called off for a second time.
It’s one of those fights that is just dragging on and on and at the recent press conference in the United Kingdom when Tyson Fury failed to show up due to vehicle trouble, it just seems like this fight is doomed for some reason, if you allow me to be pessimistic for a moment.
Promoters did not disclose the problem but said “the condition is too severe to allow him to participate”. The fight had been scheduled for October 29 in Fury’s hometown of Manchester, England.
“Tyson will now immediately undergo the treatment he needs to make a full recovery.” the BBC reported Hennessey Sports as saying. Tyson is understandably devastated by the development. “Until then, we ask that Tyson and his family be given the privacy and the space he needs to recover during this hard time”.
This is the second time that the rematch has been postponed.
Fury was supposed to defend his title in July but was forced to withdraw because of an injury sustained during his training camp.
In August, it was disclosed that on the same day Fury announced the injury, he had been charged by the U.K. Anti-Doping agency and suspended from the sport after testing positive for a banned substance.
The rearranged rematch had been scheduled for 29 October.
Now, the ball is in the court of the WBA and WBO.
Fury claimed a shock win over Klitschko to take the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation belts in a points decision in Duesseldorf last November.
Whatever the case, unless Fury is suffering from some grave ailment and his postponement is justified, he deserves to be blasted as someone who has done a great disservice to the sport by wasting everyone’s time.
