Palmer Luckey Lying About His Involvement With the Controversial Reddit Account?
“I came into touch with them over Facebook”, Luckey said of the band of trolls behind the operation.
The tech magnate also admitted to being “NimbleRichMan” on Reddit, which is the name he used to launch the project under the radar before exposing himself as NimbleRichMan. That includes one such billboard in the Pittsburgh area that called Hillary Clinton “too big to jail”, according to reports. We know Hilary Clinton is corrupt, a warmonger, a freedom-stripper. He says he’s voting for Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson.
“I am deeply sorry that my actions are negatively impacting the perception of Oculus and its partners”, Luckey said in a Facebook post. That in itself isn’t illegal in any way (a bit tasteless perhaps, but not illegal), however it became newsworthy when VR developers started distancing themselves from Oculus, and some have apparently refused to support the headset until Luckey has stepped down from his position at the company.
In case you missed it, Luckey was accused of funding a pro-Trump nonprofit that attempted to bring anti-Hillary Clinton memes into the real world, through billboards and t-shirts. The Oculus founder had earlier made public his support for the group via Reddit, where, writing under the “NimbleRichMan” account, he offered to match all donations made to the organization, which is best known for its pro-Trump “shitposting” activities.
Daily Beast reporter Gideon Resnick, who broke the story of Luckey’s ties to Nimble America, is pushing back on the Oculus exec’s claims that he didn’t write the controversial NimbleRichMan posts on Reddit. “Not the good kind you see dancing in bikinis on Independence Day, the bad kind that strips freedom from citizens and grants it to donors”.
At the time of writing, many posts pertaining to Nimble America are being removed.
There were also plenty of people willing to use this time to publicly switch virtual reality headset allegiances, from Oculus to the HTC Vive. Nimble America has since removed any mention of Luckey from its website.
“I reached out to the leaders of this community because I am doing everything I can to help make America great again”. In 2014, he sold the Oculus brand to Facebook for $2 billion, and is now estimated to have a net worth of $700 million.
“Palmer’s statement doesn’t change much for me”, McNeill tweeted this morning.
“I’m not going to keep throwing money after something if I don’t see any results”, he said after conceding that the fundraising push wasn’t a good idea.
