Magnitude 6.5 quake hits off Philippines
Today Shocking! 6.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hit The Philippines 24th September 2016:- A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.3 at Richter scale struck off the southern Philippines early Saturday but there was no threat of a tsunami, United States seismologists said.
The offshore quake hit at 9:28 am (local time) and was centred around 100 km northeast of Ndoi Island, Fiji, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said on its website.
The quake occurred 69 km below the seabed, however, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that it is not expected to trigger a tsunami.
There aren’t reports yet of any major damage or injuries.
The quake hit off the coast of the Philippines.
The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat from the strong quake.
“Many guests left their rooms and rushed downstairs”, he said.
Following the natural disaster, hotels and construction sites were evacuated by the local administration. “That is the strongest I have felt for this year”.
The Philippines archipelago is located along the Pacific Ocean’s “Ring of Fire”, where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
The USGS also detected a 5.6 magnitude natural disaster in Romania on Saturday morning. It was measured at about magnitude 6.3 which is considered to be a strong natural disaster. It was centred 149km north of Bucharest, and 66km north-west of the town of Buzau.
