Keith Scott’s Wife Releases Shocking Footage of His Shooting Death to NBC
The family of Scott, 43, was shown the footage Thursday of his fatal shooting and demanded that police release it to the public. Scott’s wife, Rakeyia Scott, tells officers in the video that he has a TBI, or traumatic brain injury.
Police claim Scott was holding a gun, saying he posed “an imminent, deadly threat”.
Clinton wrote on Twitter that authorities in Charlotte should release the police video of the Keith Lamont Scott shooting “without delay”.
Police in North Carolina previously refused to release the footage, saying they did not want to impede their investigation.
Police said an officer shot Scott after he failed to heed commands to drop a gun.
However, Putney said he would not release the footage because “I have to do what I can to protect the integrity of the investigation”. In the video, Mrs. Scott can be heard pleading with officers to hold fire as they confronted her husband in a parked vehicle outside a Charlotte apartment complex.
“I can tell you a weapon was seized, a handgun”, Putney said, discussing what was recovered from the scene.
Demonstrators on Saturday mounted a fifth day of protests in Charlotte, North Carolina, in response to the fatal police shooting of a black man, again pressing police to release video of the incident and calling for officers to be prosecuted. But Scott was right-handed, Bamberg said, which raises the question as to why he would be holding a gun in his non-dominant hand if he were to shoot someone.
Numerous hundreds massed outside at the Charlotte police department building Saturday afternoon chanted the name “Keith Scott”.

Putney said he chose to release the video Saturday because, “I now have assurance that there is no adverse impact on the investigation”.
The video, shot by Rakeyia, does not appear to show events leading up to the confrontation.
“When told by police to exit his vehicle, Mr. Scott did so in a very calm, non-aggressive manner”, the statement from the family read. Apparently Rakeyia Scott came out of the apartment complex with a cell phone charger for her husband, who was in a visitor’s parking space, waiting for his son to return home from school.
Officer in background: Drop the f–ing gun.
Shortly afterwards gunshots can be heard, but the actual shooting is not caught on camera.
Charlotte police have described their own footage of the shooting, both from body-worn cameras and dashcams, as inconclusive and have declined to release it publically. In the video, Rakeyia Scott yells back at police, insisting her husband is harmless and doesn’t have a weapon.
Scott: “Keith, get out the vehicle”. He said if he were to do so before this point, it indeed would have had an adverse impact on the investigation. She continues recording and asks if an ambulance is called as officers stand over Scott.
Scott’s shooting on Tuesday set off several nights of unrest in Charlotte. Putney said he knew of only one officer firing.
