A Google self-driving vehicle crashed in Mt. View today
While, the Mountain View company is no stranger to accidents involving its fleet of autonomous vehicle, with quite a number of accidents having occurred in the past few years, one of the cars in its fleet has gotten into quite a major accident this time around.
Self-driving cars are said to be the future of the transportation industry, but one needs to have ideal control over the technology before such cars are out on the road.
Google’s self-driving Lexus 450h SUVs getting in minor accidents is not a new thing, but the latest incident appears to be the worst one yet.
Neither driver was taken to the hospital from the scene, but a Google spokesperson says the driver of the Google auto did end up going to the hospital with a sore neck. As far as we know, the self-driving auto wasn’t at fault – as usual, but a commercial van driver ran a red light and crashed directly into the Lexus.
A Google vehicle was traveling northbound on Phyllis Ave.in Mountain View when a auto heading westbound on El Camino Real ran a red light and collided with the right side of our vehicle. According to the police, there was a passenger inside the automated vehicle when the crash occured.
It is important to note that the Google’s self-driving vehicle was not at fault. As per the reports, the driver of the other auto was at fault in fourteen cases.
Google’s self-driving cars has now so far clocked more than 1.5 million miles.
