European Open: India’s Lahiri makes cut, lies 33rd
Michael Jonzon produced a fine performance to reduce Alexander Levy’s lead to four strokes at the European Open, a tournament that will now be decided over 54 holes following further delays due to fog.
With nearly seven hours of play lost due to early morning fog over the first two days at Bad Griesbach Levy completed his first round on Friday, making five birdies in nine holes to lead at nine under.
Former European number one Karlsson is threatening the magic number of 59, albeit with preferred lies, as he is nine-under for his round with three holes to go at the par-71 course.
‘It’s not the ideal preparation for Ryder Cup.
Fog had caused almost seven hours of loss of play on days one and two, and a further three-hour suspension on Saturday saw organisers take the decision to cut the tournament to 54 holes.
“It was really good”, he told Nick Dye after his round this evening at the Golf Resort Bad Griesbach.
Michael Hoey just missed the cut on three under after a 72 as three bogeys in his opening 10 holes proved expensive, and Padraig Harrington also missed out by a shot despite a second round that featured four birdies and just a single bogey. “I’m just going to go out tomorrow (Sunday) and try to shoot as good as I can, whatever happens after that is not in my control”. That is what I did today and now it’s really nice.
“I always said I function well under these circumstances”, said 44-year-old Jonzon.
Overnight leader Wiesberger was among the players not to start their second rounds on Friday, with a 54-hole event a distinct possibility due to more fog forecast on Saturday. “I’m just trying to think about my own game and do the best I can”.
