UK police arrest man in hacking of Pippa Middleton’s phone
The hacker had reached out via WhatsApp – which now encrypts all messages end-to-end by default – and claimed to be behind the Pippa Middleton iCloud hack.
Pippa Middleton’s iCloud account has been hacked and over 3,000 photos from the leak are now being shopped to publications, the Independent reports.
The theft of 3000 photographs including images of Middleton’s sister, the Duchess of Cambridge, and her children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. To prove that the images were authentic, the hacker sent a few shots of Pippa at her wedding dress fitting to The Sun. The images feature Pippa’s sister, Duchess Kate; Prince William; their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte; as well as information about Pippa’s upcoming wedding and nude images of Pippa’s fiancé, James Matthews.
Pippa, 33, was at the centre of a major security alert after the man reportedly offered to sell 3,000 images of her, and her royal relatives, to editors at The Sun newspaper and other publications for $65,000 (£50,000).
Middleton announced her engagement to Matthews in July. “This isnt (sic) an auction it will be a simple process of the highest bid in the next 48 hours (as of 4pm 23/09/16)”.
London’s Metropolitan Police Service confirmed Saturday that it had received a report concerning the alleged hacking of a personal iCloud account a day earlier.
Officers at Scotland Yard were contacted on Friday night (Saturday morning AEST) and were investigating.
