Shot, 1 Killed, After Argument at Champaign Party
Police said an argument broke out at an apartment party near the scene, then spilled out into the street where a fight broke out and shots were fired, striking four people.
Less than half an hour later, police received a report of another shooting.
The other three people shot were taken to area hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
One man, George Korchev, of Mundelein, died at 1:02 a.m.at Carle Foundation Hospital, according to the Champaign County Coroner.
On Sunday, at around 00:38 a.m. (05:38 GMT) Champaign police officers received reports of shots fired near the University of IL.
Several shots have been fired on Green Street between Third and Fourth streets, the Daily Illini reported, citing an Illini Alert sent out on Sunday morning. Officers found a victim, who was taken to a hospital and treated for a non-critical wound.
According to police officers at the scene, the gunman fired up to nine shots before fleeing the scene.
Approximately 30 minutes later, police received another report of gunfire in the 700 Block of South State Street.
It is believed the two shooting incidents may be related. Police are now looking for the shooter or shooters involved with the incidents, which CNN reports may be related. Police told media one suspect is still at large, while they may have apprehended a second one. Police are also looking for the driver who struck the person running from the gunfire.
