Prince George Did Not Want a High Five From Justin Trudeau
Today the couple were without their two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who stole the show when they arrived in Canada.
“That is why we are so pleased that George and Charlotte can be with us in Canada this time round, beginning their own lifetime of friendship with this wonderful country”, he continued.
Trudeau, who has three young children himself, joked that touring with young kids would be an entirely different experience than their first visit five years ago shortly after their wedding.
Thousands of people turned out to welcome the royal couple throughout their day but there was one dissenting voice – a small group of republicans who had made a replica guillotine and a placard saying “No Kings No Landlords”.
Evidently, Prince George isn’t into casual greetings.
The couple and their children arrived on Saturday in Canada at the Victoria airport in the Pacific province of British Columbia for their official tour.
The 44-year-old Trudeau, who also received loud cheers, joked that getting the kids back on the plane could be a challenge after they see Canada’s attractive Pacific Coast.
“We feel very fortunate to have time to get to really know parts of this country that we did not get to visit in 2011 but of which I have very happy memories as a shy teenager”, he said.
William and Kate also hosted a reception for young Canadians making important contributions to their communities and were scheduled to visit the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station.
William and Kate spent just under an hour at Sheway, located in the downtown eastside of Vancouver.
Linda Gunther said it was fine George and Charlotte weren’t there. The windows of the auto carrying the royals were down so that they could wave back. “She asked about my daughter and how old she was and she must be close in age to George”.
For their first stop, Kate and William will travel to the Shelway charity, which helps vulnerable mothers battling addiction and other issues. William’s mother Diana was on hand when Sheway’s precursor opened in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1991. Thousands of people were there to greet the royal couple.
Later, the royal couple visit the Immigrant Services Society and meet representatives who work with refugees.
The final engagement of the day will see the Duke and Duchess, Prime Minister and Mrs Trudeau learn more about the city’s emergency services.
Princess Charlotte, wearing a blue-flowered frock, gave a little wave, much to the delight of the assembled crowd who had gathered to see the royal family of four.
