Team Trump: No Gennifer Flowers at debate
Hillary Clinton got a good scare after she made a decision to invite billionaire Mark Cuban to attend Monday’s presidential debate now that the ghosts of her husband’s philandering past have come back to haunt her.
One Clinton aide told CNN Mr Cuban was invited to the front row of the event because “he has proven to be singularly effective in making the case against Trump and for Clinton”.
“Ms. Flowers has agreed to join Donald at the debate”, Judy Stell, Flowers’ personal assistant, said in an email.
Flowers, who nearly derailed Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential bid when she revealed the two had had a long affair, confirmed her attendance with the New York Times and Buzzfeed on Sunday. “He really shows up and swings and does a great job”, she added, referring to the famed New York Yankees slugger.
On Thursday billionaire Mark Cuban said he would be sitting in the front row of the debate in support of Hillary Clinton.
Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway has denied the campaign invited Flowers, however.
Asked if Trump will raise the Clintons’ marital history or Bill Clinton’s affairs in the debate, Conway said “there’s no plan to do that”.
Trump has also raised questions over whether the moderators – NBC Nightly News’ Lester Holt will moderate the first one – would be fair to him.
Clinton backers were angered when Lauer repeatedly focused on her use of a private email server while serving as secretary of State.
On Saturday, he taunted Trump on Twitter: “Donald”.
Outspoken Trump critic and owners of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team, Mark Cuban, tweeted on Thursday: “Just got a front row seat to watch @HillaryClinton overwhelm @realDonaldTrump”. Instead, the Democrat and her Republican rival tied at 41 per cent support among registered voters, with Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson at seven per cent and Green Party nominee Jill Stein at two per cent.
The Washington Post-ABC News poll find that Clinton’s slim margin from last month has now vanished.
