Suspect in Pippa royal photo ‘hack’ bailed by United Kingdom police
Update: A 35-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Scotland Yard in relationship to the theft of Pippa Middleton’s photos, the BBC reports.
Police said the suspect, whom they did not name, was arrested in the central English county of Northamptonshire on suspicion of a Computer Misuse Act offence.
Images of Kate Middleton and her children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were reportedly among some 3,000 images stolen when the account was hacked, according to Britain’s Press Association news agency. The news came just a day after police started an investigation based on reports that almost 3,000 photos were stolen from the iCloud account of Kate Middleton’s sister. To prove that the images were authentic, the hacker sent a few shots of Pippa at her wedding dress fitting to The Sun.
The Sun said it had been approached by a person using a pseudonym and asking for £50,000 ($85,000) within 48 hours.
Middleton and her fiancé James Matthews lap up Wimbledon.
In July, it was announced that Pippa Middleton would marry her financier boyfriend, James Matthews, in a society wedding in 2017.
However, the newspaper did not purchase the photos and notified Middleton of the hack.
William and Kate have sought to protect the privacy of their children in an attempt to give them as normal a childhood as possible.
A spokesperson has confirmed that “Miss Middleton’s lawyers have been informed and, in due course, the police will too”. Previous victims of similar hacks include actress Jennifer Lawrence, model Kate Upton and “Saturday Night Live” comedian Leslie Jones.
