Browns not changing kickers after Parkey misses 3 on Sunday
If he had made any one of the three, the Browns would have earned their first win of the season.
Kessler was alright in his regular season debut because he had a whole week to prepare for the game.
“Yes, but I don’t have a great answer for you right now until I go back and take a look at the film”, said Gase when asked about his team’s struggles on both sides of the ball during the game and the blown fourth quarter lead.
It took overtime, but the Dolphins emerged victorious. They’re at Cincinnati on Thursday. As quarterback, he ran four times for 21 yards. Pryor caught eight passes for 144 yards, including a few quick slants that he turned into big gains.
As the two teams came back to the field for the second half, it was largely a repeat of the first half.
Pryor lined up at quarterback, wide receiver and even on defense as a safety, doing everything possible short of sacrificing a digit a la Ronnie Lott to try to will the Browns to a win.
From there, Jay Ajayi scampered around left end untouched on the next play for the game-winning touchdown. But Wake was flagged for an offside. Later on Miami would score again making it 24-13.
And that’s with the Dolphins (1-2) coming off their first victory.
But Gase and Miami were saved in large part because of the inaccurate kicking of Parkey, in a game that started on a somber note when a moment of silence was held for Jose Fernandez – the Marlins pitcher killed earlier in the day in a boating mishap. In fact, many likely began to worry when the team trailed 13-10 going into halftime. If newly signed Cleveland Browns kicker Cody Parkey hadn’t missed his third field goal of the day, sending the game into overtime, where Miami won it 30-24, these Dolphins would have probably broken under the weight of losing to Cleveland, the NFL’s worst team. Franks’ kick capped a 10-play, 56-yard drive. The misdirection caused Pryor to hit tight end Gary Barnidge on a 26 yard pass on the far hash. And since they are the Browns, the field goal attempt by Parkey to seal the win sailed wide to the left. However, Parkey banged a 42-yard attempt off the goal post with 7:27 left in the third quarter and then missed the potential game-winning field goal at the end of regulation to finish just 2-of-5.
And while Pryor was taking snaps at quarterback, Kessler acquited himself quite well in his first start too, going 21/33 for 244 yards without throwing an interception. He now has 24 catches for 314-yards and a touchdown for the season. The Dolphins led Seattle, 10-6, for a span of three minutes, 37 seconds in the fourth quarter.
The Dolphins have a long injury list with little time to heal.
When it was clear this past week that Cody Kessler would indeed make his National Football League debut, his hometown of Bakersfield, California, took out a billboard in Cleveland to wish the Browns rookie quarterback good luck.
