Clinton satisfied about debate, rejects Trump complaints
That leaves the work of separating fact from fiction in the first presidential debate to viewers at home and media outlets covering the campaign.
I think she did very well.
Democrat Hillary Clinton has released her tax returns to the public, while Republican Donald Trump has not. I won’t feel comfortable until we know exactly who’s president – and hopefully, it’s not Trump.
Trump and aides complimented moderator Lester Holt of NBC News right after the debate but criticized him on Tuesday for not raising issues like the Clinton Foundation, the 2012 attacks on a USA facility in Benghazi, Libya, and the former secretary of State’s use of private email.
Donald Trump says it was a “real problem” when the 1996 Miss Universe gained significant weight after winning the pageant that he formerly owned. Similar gaffes, like Trump’s comment about “the Second Amendment people” stopping Hillary Clinton from swinging the Supreme Court and his later comment that the Secret Service should stop protecting her, got wildly different voter reactions.
The full video didn’t stop some national outlets from erroneously reporting that Trump had snubbed Holt.
According to Twitter, it was the most-tweeted debate in the service’s history, although the company hasn’t said how many people were tweeting or how big the spikes in traffic were.
As for Trump, Obama didn’t even address him by his name.
Health is a legitimate issue as the nation is poised to elect one of its oldest presidents. Trump paraphrased a remark from himself before the war which seemed wishy-washy at best, but then pointed to the article written in 2004 (he correctly noted the year) that showed he was opposed to the war.
When reporters insisted that Trump did not oppose the war before it began, Epshteyn said that the GOP nominee had just been joking around in a much-cited September 11, 2002 interview with shock jock radio host Howard Stern. That doesn’t mean he didn’t, it just means he wasn’t telling the press as much. If anyone needed an example of media bias, here it is.
Clinton’s campaign latched onto the tax answer and clearly sees it as a weapon for the final stretch of the campaign.
“He [Trump] didn’t say anything that was certainly going to expand his appeal to those groups and he probably lost a little ground with them, so not the greatest night for Donald Trump but certainly not a disaster”, said Henson.
The one thing Trump absolutely had to do he didn’t – display the respect for the office he seeks.
Clinton also straight up lied about her stance on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.
Election forecaster Nate Silver of the FiveThirtyEight website thinks Mrs Clinton will get a bounce from Monday’s performance but is not taking it as a given.
“This is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs”, she declared.
In that interview, which was first surfaced by BuzzFeed News, Stern directly asked Trump if he supported the Iraq invasion. We’re dreading, disgusted, panicking and having anxiety, watching that and knowing that someone out there is going to vote for someone that’s totally not prepared to run the country.
That’s not mere “hope”, that’s pretty clear.
In addition to the CNN poll – which found Clinton’s ratings comparable to Republican Mitt Romney’s after his strong first debate with President Barack Obama in 2012 – a survey by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling found more debate watchers considered Clinton the victor.
