GoPro unveils new drone, Karma, and new line of cameras
However, the pick the of the new GoPro devices is its new Karma drone which is arguably the most transportable drone available today, as it can be easily folded and carried in your backpack.
GoPro’s new drone will compete with such companies as DJI, Yuneec and 3DR.
Finally, the gimbal on the Karma Drone which is made to house your GoPro can be removed and attached to an included Grip handle to allow GoPro owners to create handheld footage. There is a gamepad-style controller with a display that lets you see what the drone sees, without needing to pair with a phone.
At Monday’s event, GoPro also announced its next-generation action camera, the Hero 5 Black, for $399. Hero 5 Black shoots 4K video and 12-megapixel photos. The new product takes the company from one sector – action cameras – to the fast-growing drone market.
Speaking of the Karma Drone, GoPro’s founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman expressed that they’re stoked to launch Karma and show how much more it is than a drone.
Alongside the Hero5 Black announcement was news of its younger brother: the Hero5 Session.
The GoPro Hero 5 will capture RAW and WDR Photo Modes and has inbuilt Global Positioning System. (It does remind one of a Nintendo DS.) The company stressed its ease of use and suitability for beginners.
They additionally feature electronic video stabilization, plus they automatically upload photos and video to the cloud while charging – if the user subscribes to the new GoPro Plus service, that is. The Hero5 Session will be available starting October 2. It’ll go on sale in October, with availability on October 23rd. “This is a game-changing experience that we will continue to build upon”.
GoPro also announced a smaller HERO5, the HERO5 Session, which will cost £100 less and has the same 4K video capabilities, waterproofing, touch and voice control.
Karma is the system which helps in capturing the incredible footage with the GoPro in the air, handheld or by mounting with your favorite gear.
