Carson Wentz Named NFC Offensive Player of the Week
Wentz, the second overall pick from North Dakota State in this year’s draft, has led the Eagles to a 3-0 start in winning the NFC honor announced Wednesday for Week 3. Just one look at his 73-yard touchdown to Darren Sproles showed the difference between Wentz and the likes of Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker and some of the recent quarterback busts that people were anxious he would emulate.
The rookie has 769 passing yards through three games, which is good for No. 18 of all quarterbacks.
The Sunday afternoon matchup was the biggest test for the Eagles to this point this season. Wentz completed 74% of his passes against Pittsburgh for 301 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a 125.9 passer rating. The Cowboys won 31-17 with rookie QB Dak Prescott throwing for 248 yards and running for 36 more with one touchdown through the air and another on the ground. Ben Roethlisberger, meanwhile, threw for a season low in yardage and was held without a touchdown pass.
For starters, this is the year of the young. His last, a 37-yard kick, was the game victor. The Raiders (2-1) present a tougher test this week.
REALISTIC REACTION: Seattle (2-1) and Arizona (1-2) still play in the same division.
Playing without the injured Adrian Peterson, the Vikings moved to 3-0 with a 22-10 win over the Panthers in Charlotte. However, Newton was sacked eight times, threw three interceptions, and WR Kelvin Benjamin had no receptions whatsoever. Coming off a loss, the Green Bay Packers bounced back with a 34-27 win over the Detroit Lions behind a strong effort from Aaron Rodgers. Fitzpatrick had six picks in the Jets’ loss to Kansas City. He’s short for a quarterback, 6-feet-1, and does not have a plus arm.
Baltimore beat Jacksonville 19-17 on Justin Tucker’s 54-yard field goal with 62 seconds remaining.
-Last summer, the Eagles signed linebacker Mychal Kendricks to a four-year, $29 million contract extension, almost $12 million of which was guaranteed. Oh, yeah, and he was in at safety on the final play of the first half, too.
Prescott has scored twice as a runner and once as a passer. McCoy scored on 24- and 5-yard runs and finished with 110 yards rushing. Manning hasn’t led the Giants into the playoffs for five consecutive years. They need wins, and multiple INTs won’t give them any. They have no one in the top 80 in the league in receiving yards.
