Roethlisberger ‘not looking back’ as Steelers prepare for Chiefs
This number is going to sound unrealistic, but here it goes anyway: Kansas City had six interceptions against the Jets in Week 3. Six!
More certain is the return of running back Le’Veon Bell, who has returned from suspension and is expected to resume his leading role on the Pittsburgh offense. “If there is, we’ll iron them out in the next couple days”. “So many things I did my (in 2014) were good things”.
Kansas City has the defensive chops to win on the road, while their offense is well-schemed enough to catch the Steelers off guard.
Over on the Chiefs’ side, they’re sitting pretty well at 2-1 following a freaky 24-3 victory over the Jets in Week 3.
On Defense: Dick LeBeau had his Steelers defenses feasting on rookie quarterbacks during his tenure as defensive coordinator, but last season first-year coordinator Keith Butler didn’t have the opportunity.
“We have a great group of guys in all three phases”, linebacker Arthur Moats said. Like Wentz, Chiefs QB Alex Smith is a game manager who has the ability to deliver quick, pinpoint passes and make plays on the run. “I feel like the only way we can lose is if we beat ourselves”.
So far for the Chiefs, Smith has put up a 79-of-118 line for 786 yards and three scores, while Ware has been playing well on 41 attempts for 202 yards and one TD.
Poe is a two-time Pro Bowl pick who is finally healthy after dealing with back issues. He averaged 115 yards from scrimmage past year after totaling 2,215 yards from scrimmage with 11 touchdowns in a breakout 2014 season.
After a brutal last week, it would be easy to go extreme by saying the Steelers will continue to drop games.
When you run back through the game film though, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
“It’s rearview mirror”, Roethlisberger said.
“We talked in here a week ago about executing and getting knocked off the ball”. “It just makes getting off extremely hard”.
The Chiefs will also be challenged to get ahead early. Bell is known as the best receiving back in the league. The Steelers seemingly could do nothing right last Sunday while the Chiefs had everything working in their favor. I’ll take the Steelers to get a win here.
“It’ll be a nice challenge for our defense front, the defensive line and linebackers”.
The Steelers’ secondary has not been productive at all and has allowed over 300 yards passing in all three of the games played this season. “Sweet and sour pork here”, Reid said with a guffaw. Eagles coach Doug Pederson is a protege of Chiefs coach Andy Reid and the series of screens and misdirection passes Philadelphia used so effectively are just Pederson’s own riff on the West Coast offense Reid’s teams have been using for years. We’ve seen him every day, he’s been a part of us, he’s been in the building, and he’s up to speed on what we’re doing from a schematic standpoint and really in tune there.
It was the beginning of the 1989 season and the Steelers, coached by Chuck Noll, were struggling to put things together. But the running back-by-committee approach of Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West has been solid for Kansas City.
