Four infiltrating militants killed in Kupwara district
Indian soldiers yesterday killed three suspected militants who tried to attack an army base in Indian Kashmir, officers said.
Four terrorists, including an infiltrator, were killed by security forces in two separate encounters in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.
Indian troops have killed three suspected militants who tried to attack an army base in Indian-administered Kashmir, authorities say.
Though the firing has stopped, the search operation is still on, added the official.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also claimed recovered from the slain militants. In a sign of how fraught relations have become, Pakistan’s military chief lashed out against India on Thursday and warned that Pakistan would react strongly against any aggression.
No casualties have been reported, so far. When asked about how they identified the terrorists, Colonel Saharan said, “The medicines recovered have “made in Pakistan” markings on them, this ascertains that these three terrorists were from Pakistan”.
“Several mortar shells landed near forward Indian army posts in Balnoi Sona Gali in which four soldiers of Mahar regiment were injured”, said a police official.
The escalating tensions in the region come as Kashmir is witnessing largest protests against Indian rule in Kashmir in recent years, sparked by the killing in July of a popular rebel commander by Indian soldiers. Three days ago militants attacked an army base camp in Baramulla where one BSF soldier lost his life.
Militants today attacked Rashtriya Rifles camp in Kashmir’s Handwara, prompting security forces to retaliate.
“On the intervening night of October 5 and 6, three infiltration bids assisted by Pakistani posts were foiled by the Army, ” a defence spokesperson said.
