Google Home and the assistant are rolling out almost two years after the Amazon Echo and its equivalent virtual assistant, Alexa, came to market. By saying, “Good morning, Google”, Assistant will give you a briefing on what your day looks like. You speak – “Okay, Google” – and it listens. Ask it a question- and then, if you like, follow that up with further questions and comments.

But they’re clearly hoping that the new Pixel phones will be distinguished by their use of Google’s software.

“Through Nexus, the goal was to work with these various partners to push the boundaries of what’s possible with a smartphone”, Brian Rakowski, Google’s vice president of product management, said in a blog post. The face also doubles as a capactive touch panel for manual control.

Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has unveiled its latest major product known as the Google Home speaker which aims to compete directly with Amazon.com, Inc.

Google is among some of the biggest names in the world of smartphone technology.

On their own, these devices have merit but don’t really stand out next to Amazon’s Echo or Apple’s iPhone 7. From web search to mobile to artificial intelligence, our eyeballs keep moving to the next thing, and Google wants to be there. Google’s rival, Google Home, will be released early next month, and the broader competition is just getting started.

In the UK, Assistant will be present on Google’s new smartphones and within the Allo app for Android and iOS, but USA users will also be able to buy a small voice-enabled speaker called Google Home. Needless to say it can also control smart home devices around the house. Its virtual assistant will be also able to take advantage of Google’s ecosystem, with its ability to talk to other Andriod apps installed on the user’s phone. The Google Home speaker can also be connected to various music services such as Pandora, Spotify or YouTube. (Pichai said Tuesday Google’s Knowledge Graph is loaded with a growing library of 70 billion facts.) Now it’s focusing that expertise on AI that will be with you no matter where you are. “If we can’t find a direct answer, we try to find a website that has the best answer to your question”, Google said, noting that this allows it to provide more answers. Initially, this will be limited to things like Google Photos and Youtube, but Google has promised Netflix control is incoming. But in the home there is a clearer use case. The new Home can also command any Chromecast. Your home. Your vehicle.

Google announced the launch of a range of wireless devices for use in the home and bearing the company’s own brand.

That said, we won’t know if the Google Home can live up to its promises until we’ve tried it out, and we will. Pre-orders for the Home start today in the United States, and it goes on sale November 4.
