Vikings stay unbeaten as defense dominates Giants
Beckham had three catches for 23 yards. This from arguably the best WR in football.and Rhodes tore him up. The Giants defense is gonna need to play some blitz and some man coverage against Vikings Quarterback Sam Bradford.
Instead of being a part of the solution, the Giants’ most explosive offensive player was part of the problem. The win moves Minnesota to 4-0, where they join the Eagles and Broncos as the NFL’s only remaining unbeaten teams.
After the Vikings improved to 4-0 with a 24-10 win over the New York Giants, Rudolph praised Bradford. Mike Zimmer’s defense befuddled Manning, keeping him to 25-for-45 with 261 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception.
But the back judge – almost 40 yards from the play – threw the flag on Beckham for unsportsmanlike conduct. He then disappeared, finishing with only three catches for 23 yards.
That was more production than Beckham could say.
As Elias Sports pointed out (via SportsCenter’s Twitter), this is the first time since 2010 that a team has defeated three-straight Super Bowl starting quarterbacks in a row.
Oh, and their offense is now showing signs of life.
Xavier Rhodes, CB – The effort from the defensive secondary last night wasn’t just Xavier Rhodes, but he certainly played a huge role. Rhodes kept jawing along the sideline but was pulled off the field by Vikings players and assistants. In the course of a game, there’s a lot that can go on.
Minnesota’s defense, averaging five sacks a game coming into the contest, was held without a first-half sack. While Patterson wasn’t credited with the forced fumble, having the muscled and speedy 6-foot-2, 220-pound Patterson bearing down on you could make even a season punt returner a bit queasy. His athleticism and explosiveness adds a new dimension to the offense. “But what are you going to do?” “I’m focused on this week. Guys that when it gets down to it, we fight”. The Giants didn’t get a sack on Sam Bradford.
They entered Monday ranked last in the NFL with an average of 51 rushing yards per game and a league-worst average of 2.1 per carry.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, rookie running back Paul Perkins singlehandedly put the Giants back in the game. “No doubt. Can’t afford the penalties”.
On Monday, the Vikings allowed the Giants to convert two of 12 third downs, getting off the field and ending one of the few downsides of the Vikings defense to date.
“This is the first game where the offense scored all the points”, Rudolph said. Shortly thereafter, the Giants receiver – yes, you’ve seen this before – appeared to lose his cool.
“They’re kind of doubling the outside guys it’s an opportunity where Shepard can get open or our tight ends get open, your backs are 1 on 1”, Manning said. He’s bringing a little more fire on top of the incredible attributes as a quarterback.
“Coach Zimmer has been harping on us every week about the running game”, Asiata said.
Bradford has continued to impress since his preseason trade to the Vikings. So far he’s been right. The Vikings head the NFC North with a 100 percent record. The schedule will keep throwing tests at them.
