Broncos rookie Paxton Lynch to start Sunday
A week ago, Ryan and Jones became the first duo in National Football League history to post a 500-yard passing and 300-yard receiving performance in the same game.
DENVER (AP) – Broncos coach Gary Kubiak experienced flu-like symptoms and was taken from the stadium to a hospital by ambulance following Denver’s 23-16 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
Last season, the Broncos sacked the QB 8.1 percent of the time; this season, it’s 10.4 percent.
Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman carried the offense in Denver against the best defense in the league.
Added defensive end Dwight Freeney, still creating havoc at age 36: “This is like a machine and you have all the parts of that engine working together”. “When you have that, you can have the success like we’re having”.
For Denver, it’s quickly back to the drawing board in a short week. To make the tackle, McDonald swung Siemian around and tossed him down directly on the left shoulder. “There’s still a lot of improvement we have to do, but it comes with practice”.
But none of them came from Jones. Just handling all of the aspects walking in here today, getting a game plan that’s different than the one that he had last week. “Everybody else is going to step up. And we’re going to have to have a great pass rush to get the game going”.
The good news for Lynch: Atlanta’s defense is among the NFL’s worst, ranking 30th in total yards (419.3 per game), 31st against the pass (317 yards per game), 29th in scoring (31 points) and tying for 30th in red zone scoring (84.6 percent). The coaching staff’s inability to adjust the game plan and station another body on that side of the line to help Sambrailo and Schofield was reminiscent of last year’s loss at home to Oakland when Khalil Mack racked up five sacks in one half. Kubiak declared Monday that Siemian would play despite an injury to his non-throwing shoulder, but he now wants to see his signal-caller throw again tomorrow to make sure he’s healthy enough to face the Falcons. He turned out to be quite good, with six touchdown passes and a 99.6 passer rating. Last week, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he made two interception which were converted to Broncos points. Quinn said he didn’t know if Collins, who started two games in 2015, will be active for Sunday’s game. “After that first drive, I was ready to go and ready to play with those guys”.
In a shake-up of our previous perceptions, it was Atlanta’s defense that owned the game at Mile High. He completed 49 of 74 pass attempts for 501 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in his other two starts for the Panthers. Coleman was Atlanta’s leading receiver on the day with 132 receiving yards and a touchdown on just four catches.
Atlanta was stout against the run, too, containing C.J. Anderson to just 41 yards. The Broncos finished with a 12-4 record but lost their first playoff game in the second round.
The Broncos play the Falcons Sunday at 2:00 p.m. on FOX31 with a pre-game show starting at 1:00 p.m. We put him in a really tough situation. Ty Sambrailo was repeatedly burned by Beasley before the Broncos moved right guard Michael Schofield over and inserted Darrion Weems. Sambrailo watched from the bench. The Atlanta Falcons look to give the defending Super Bowl champions their first loss of the season when they clash on October 9.
