Rivers, Chargers hope they’re done finding new ways to lose
Last week, the Broncos lost their first game of the season to the Atlanta Falcons, 23-16.
The guys dive into the matchups between Denver and San Diego and how they will affect the outcome of the game. I still feel much better about both our pass and run game being much more versatile and unsafe with his return.
Thursday Night Football invariably throws up imponderables due to a quick turnaround from last weekend for the two teams involved but punters have a lot of information to digest ahead of this week’s AFC West showdown. The two jabber during games and does Rivers really want Miller’s engine revved?
“We did the same thing [Sunday] against New England, ” Phillips said.
Moving onto the run game again we see the importance of Virgil Green to getting this run game back on track.
The Chargers blew late leads in losses at Kansas City and Indianapolis, and at home against the Saints. Key for Bolts: No turnovers, especially you, Melvin “Fumbles” Gordon. They are coming off a tough loss not only on the field but off of it with Gary Kubiak sidelined. At 1-4, and now facing the defending Super Bowl champions, it looks like the Chargers are going to miss the playoffs for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. Instead, special teams coach Joe DeCamillis will lead the team against a Chargers squad that has lost three straight but is 3-2 against the spread.
Without them, the Broncos’ ground game has sputtered, and that allowed the Falcons to put too much pressure on Lynch.
HEAD COACH: Denver’s DeCamillis said he’d love to be a head coach in the National Football League someday, but he’s not viewing this as an audition. I think Travis Benjamin is worth a start, but if you’re looking for a touchdown, then you may be playing Russian roulette with the Chargers pass catchers.
Barring a setback in his sprained left shoulder, “I think I’m expecting to play”, Siemian said. Honestly if I had to give him a nickname it would be “The Swiss Army Knife”. McCoy’s locker room speech should sound something like this, “Help me Chargers”. That’s what I’m doing. Lynch would get his second career start if Siemian is not able to play. Lynch was the one who showed he wasn’t ready. Offensive Coordinator Rick Dennison will be in control of the offense.
Overall, this should hopefully be an entertaining game between two teams trying to rebound from last week’s losses. The Chargers are 24-31 under McCoy and general manager Tom Telesco, also hired in January 2013.
After a strong start to the season, the Broncos’ running game has fizzed out, failing to gain 90 yards on the ground in each of the last three games. Chargers are 5-16 since John Spanos was promoted to president/football operations.
Did I also mention that Manti Te’o, Danny Woodhead, Keenan Allen and Jason Verrett are all on the injured reserve, certainly leading to some of the dark cloud surrounding San Diego?
