Naomi Campbell gets six-month suspended prison sentence
Campbell hit the photographer with her handbag, scratching one of his eyes.
Back in August 2009, she and her boyfriend at the time, Vladimir Doronin, were on a yacht trip on the island of Lipari when paparazzo Gaetano Di Giovanni took some pictures of them strolling through the streets sight-seeing.
Britain’s Telegraph is reporting the model was given a six month suspended prison sentence, which her lawyer has since said he is going to appeal.
Campbell has a history of inappropriate behavior, starting in 1999 when she went to rehab for a cocaine habit.
Campbell’s attorneys said, “We are appealing the ruling surrounding the 2009 incident”, and declined to comment further.
ET’s Nischelle Turner got to see a softer side of Campbell when talking to her about her role on Empire.
Mr Di Giovanni needed medical treatment following the incident and took three days to recover, the court heard.
The model’s attorney managed to reach a settlement with the snapper, who agreed to drop the charges against Campbell, but prosecutor Francesco Massara decided to press ahead with the case, insisting it was in the public interest to pursue the counts. Naomi has been arrested and sued for different acts of violence and abuse, including assaulting police officers in 2008, and throwing her phone at her personal assistant and maid on different occasions.
