Kaine: Pence threw Trump ‘under the bus’ in debate
Some critics have criticized Tim Kaine’s performance as inappropriate considering the circumstances of the only Vice-Presidential Debate. It is quite likely he was merely trying to bluff his way through the debate, just like Donald Trump is routinely accused of doing in many of his public appearances. And we are very, very proud of Gov. Mike Pence.
Pence, the governor of IN, pounced, saying, “That is absolutely inaccurate”.
Understanding this claim requires going back to exchanges that occurred about a month earlier.
Though Trump was on the campaign trail, campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said he was preparing “constantly”.
In Western Massachusetts, almost two-thirds of likely voters, or 64 percent, said they would cast ballots for Clinton in a four-way matchup with Trump, Johnson and Stein, according to poll results.
Still, Pence strayed not an inch from his mission to champion Trump, even when some see presidential material in the in governor. Publicly, Trump praised Pence, though behind the scenes he was less than thrilled, as reported by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer on October 5. Pence supported what his ticket-mate had said.
“Sometimes I get up in the morning, I gotta turn on the television with a stick”, Pence said. Pence played down Trump’s promises to deport millions of undocumented immigrants and his well-documented skepticism of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
So Kaine has a point that Pence did say something seemingly favorable to Putin’s leadership, saying he’d been “a stronger leader” than Obama.
See Sharrie’s full interview with Tim Kaine: Meanwhile, Republican Mike Pence faced supporters in Harrisonburg, Virginia, clearly delighted with what many pundits thought was his victory last night over Tim Kaine. Pence never had a chance to answer.
“If you serve as vice president that is the best place to be” in order to seek a presidential nomination someday, Palazzolo said.
While Kaine “probably lost the debate stylistically”, there likely is “little regret in the Clinton camp” because the overall dynamics of the race likely are unchanged, Holsworth said.
A Pence-for-president campaign four years hence is not even a whisper on Pence’s lips, senior Pence adviser Nick Ayers said.
On national security, Kaine revived Trump’s frequently flattering comments about Putin, the Russian president. “Our message for Donald Trump and Mr. Pence: “That Mexican thing” is gonna come back to bite you because our community is engaged, they’re paying attention”, said Rep. Linda Sanchez, chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, adding, “You are going to pay a price at the ballot box this November”.
