Jets’ Marshall: Giants should keep Beckham bashing in-house
The New York Giants’ rookie coach knows that statistics can be misleading. He’s a very good kid who has a strong mentality who has made a few mistakes and he knows what he has to work on. “Because whether they like it or not, he’s the best player on that team”, Marshall added. Bryant’s production since 2010 is among the best in the National Football League (423 receptions) and losing him would be something the Cowboy may have to risk to keep their team going in the right direction.
On Tuesday, Giants star receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. proclaimed he no longer is having fun while playing football. I’m struggling because of myself. I can’t control anything else but what I do. “So I think that he can channel it a bit better, but there’s a thin line”.
It was clear Rhodes had gotten under Beckham’s skin when the receiver drew a personal foul in the first half for trying to taunt the defender. If that’s going to be their approach, you can put that into the way you rank it and say, obviously the guys aren’t courageous enough, or fearless enough, or man enough to play him straight up.
“If they need those types of tricks, okay, then so be it. We’re going to rise above that”.
Beckham’s emotions have been the largest topic of discussion in the wake of these consecutive Giants losses, and offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan took a cerebral approach to the subject Thursday. “If you watch a game, the camera unfortunately is on the kid all the time”. Coughlin said Beckham was a “distraction”, but he would like to help Beckham. “It’s always the tough times that make the great ones that much better”.
Mara is headlining a panel Friday on “big sports, big business”. NY is seeking a franchise milestone, going for its 700th victory.
In total, Beckham Jr. has now been fined in three or four games this season totaling $72,463.
Beckham himself has admitted in the past that a lot of what’s happened to him is “a little self-inflicted” and that he could see why opponents might be turned off by his style of competitiveness. “So that is one of the messages of this conference”.
In their two-game losing streak, the Giants have hurt themselves. Great receivers are prone to get frustrated when they don’t get the ball; however, OBJ needs to do not forget to control himself and stop babying around.
It’s hard to believe the Giants would actually suspend Beckham for a game or two, even if he has a particularly bad outburst. He’s not only slumping, going five games without a touchdown, dating back to his melee with Josh Norman, he is also on every defense’s radar. “We look forward to it”. We talked about it a couple of games ago, ‘Hey, express yourself’.
Many have voiced their opinion Beckham needs to develop thicker skin and not allow opposing players to rile him up to the point it affects his on field play.
He cautions the Giants to be careful how they discuss the situation, as they could quickly rub Beckham Jr. the wrong way putting too much stuff out into the media.
