GOP’s Pence Forging Ahead in Awkward Relationship With Trump
“There will be more evidence coming out” to prove Trump’s innocence, Pence said.
Pence told the crowd he will meet Monday night with Dorothy Woods, the wife of Tyrone Woods, who was killed in the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya.
Pence told Fox News on Friday that “the campaign is working on bringing that out”. “He is a fighter”.
Pence tells students at the evangelical college that personal “shortcomings are no excuse for inaction” and they should vote for Trump.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr Pence was referring to the Friday afternoon publication by the Washington Post of a story about a 2005 video in which Mr Trump is recorded bragging about groping women without their permission.
But rather than appealing to women with thoughtful words of contrition or an explanation of how he had changed, Trump again merely dismissed his 2005 comments about women as “locker room banter”, before veering incoherently into a tangent about ISIS and beheadings around the world. Trump also mentioned Kathy Shelton, who was 12 years old in the 1970s when she was raped. Pat Toomey also refused to acknowledge Trump’s debate appearance.
Trump made the threat in Sunday’s debate after Clinton said it’s good that someone with Trump’s temperament isn’t president.
Pence said that a Trump administration would focus on prosperity, security for citizens and law enforcement officers and rebuilding the American military. “I’ve never seen anything like it”, he said.
“I was on television this morning on MSNBC”, Pence began.
“I was on a few … somebody asked me about my faith and they asked me about the fact that I say that I’m a Christian [and] in the wake of the last few days, what I make of everything. I said, ‘I’ll show you where they have some nice furniture'”. Importantly, Pence noted, Trump had apologized.
“I’m one among many women sexually abused, misused, stared down, heckled, talked naughty to”. “We’re all sinners, every one of us”. “I believe he is driving the presidential campaign to a new low and is running out of time to persuade the American people that he should lead our country and represent American values”.
The Indiana governor had been slated to fill in for Trump at a weekend event in Wisconsin with House Speaker Paul Ryan, after the speaker disinvited Trump, but decided not to go. As Pence spoke, his microphone died. Pence continued to praise Trump’s performance last night.
“Hillary did it!” they shouted as Pence got his mic turned back on.
Pence did not address the video in Salem. “Women and men across America know that is just a really weak excuse for behaving badly and mistreating people”.
“I believe men and women of faith can not stand idly by”, the IN governor said, urging students to get involved IN the national debate.
