How mushrooms reduce breast cancer risk

There are risk factors that may increase an individual’s chance of getting a disease – some can be avoided (obesity, excessive alcohol consumption, diet high in saturated fats), while other risk factors cannot be avoided (family history, genes). Now, one is on display aboard the Lexington in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In September the Buckhead-based breast cancer nonprofit, an offshoot of the Dallas, Texas-based global Susan G. Komen, celebrated its 25th anniversary. Since 2005, with the advent of the softer, more natural cohesive gel implant, I have used tissue expanders and implants in about 90 percent of my reconstructions.
One in nine Canadian women is expected to develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
One of the surprisingly hard things about dealing with cancer can be the period after the chemotherapy, surgery and radiation – that time when you’re trying to discover your “new normality”.
She said women of all ages should do manual exams of their breasts each month, but after age 40 they should add annual mammograms. The goal is to remove the cancer as well as some surrounding normal tissue. In those cases, a breast surgeon will perform a mastectomy with the option for breast reconstruction. And a recent study funded by the Avon Foundation for Women found that may be the biggest reason behind the growing disparity in breast cancer deaths.
