Prater’s kick, Bush’s pick give Lions 31-28 win over Rams
“Depending on what’s called, depending on what defense is they’re showing it can end up with a different guy getting the ball in his hand, maybe a little bit more often than the next guy”, Caldwell said.
All of that got quieted Sunday. After the Lions kicked the go-ahead field goal with 3:37 left in the game, Rams quarterback Case Keenum threw an interception that sealed the game for Detroit. “He was poised. He was confident”. We’ll start with us up front on the line. “He had a really fine game and you know he’s capable of it”.
Matthew Stafford threw for four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Not only was Fisher responsible for the bad decision to go for a fake punt deep in their own territory when only trailing the Bills by fourth late in the fourth quarter, but he passed on a field goal before halftime against the Lions by going for the touchdown instead. On the first play of the second quarter, Keenum threw incomplete.
Bush said Keenum didn’t try hard enough to do that. Leading 17-3 in the half Russell Wilson was playing better than we have seen since his injuries.
Keenum made a lot, though.
Detroit converted two fourth downs, gaining 2 yards on Zenner’s run on the opening drive that ended with Stafford’s sharp, 7-yard TD pass to Jones.
Detroit defensive end Ezekiel Ansah returned after missing three-plus games with an ankle injury, but was replaced on the inactive list by defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (shoulder). It was Tate’s breakout game of the season. “We do what we do, everybody else does what they do”. In the victory over Philadelphia two weeks ago, Tate had three catches for 39 yards, including a third-down reception that helped set up the game-winning field goal. “I anticipate he’s going to have more of those”. I couldn’t stand on the sideline another week and watch. Inside the one-yard line, I mean, you need to knock that in. Los Angeles then lost defensive lineman Michael Brockers and defensive back Lamarcus Joyner to injuries during the game, and it’s too early in the week to know who will be back this weekend at Twickenham.
The Los Angeles Rams were without defensive lineman Robert Quinn during the game, so Brockers needed to have an increased role for the team. The team didn’t practice Monday and will have only a community event on Tuesdaybefore they return to practice Wednesday afternoon.
“There’s been some criticism with respect to that”.
Maybe that’s just their destiny under Fisher. He took the Rams to London in 2012 – when they suffered a blowout loss to New England – and the Rams, having relocated from St. Louis this summer, are no strangers to new environments.
“The difficulty we had in the game was keeping Detroit out of the end zone”, Fisher said.
Fisher said he’d address the matter with the team and “it’s unlikely to happen again”. But everything is in place right now.
On this week’s show, Joe and Josh recap the Rams’ unfortunate loss against Detroit. But the coaches have been game-planning ever since they left Detroit, thinking about how to contain Odell Beckham Jr. and beat the Giants to go into the bye week with a winning record.
“I think so. There’s still the, when you don’t win the football game, there’s still things you have to, win or lose, there’s going to be stuff that you can get better at”, Keenum said.
