Chiefs deal RB Knile Davis to Packers
25 year-old Knile Davis was told Monday evening that he had been traded to the Green Bay Packers, and now he’ll go from the Chiefs inactive list, to a possible starter.
The Packers would be giving up a conditional late round pick for Davis.
Knile Davis is already at the Green Bay Packers facility and it sounds like he could be playing very quickly. After rushing for 463 yards in 2014, Davis carried 28 times for 72 yards (2.6 average) past year and just once for minus-2 yards this season. The Chiefs have a bye this week to get him acclimated.
Last Thanksgiving, Jay Cutler came into Lambeau Field and outplayed Rodgers, something that would have seemed unthinkable a few years ago.
Kansas City wasn’t using Davis and hasn’t used him for a while.
But McCarthy wouldn’t say whether or not another true running back, such as practice-squad rookie Don Jackson, would be added by Thursday.
Davis has been available via trade as far back as March.
While at Arkansas, Davis ran for 1,862 yards and 19 touchdowns in three seasons while adding almost 300 yards receiving and two scores.
Though Davis’ numbers don’t leap off the page, he’s a tough, 230 lb. back who ran a speedy 4.37 40-yard dash out of college, so he should provide a nice change of pace to Lacy. He had a vertical jump of 33.5 inches and benched 225 pounds a remarkable 31 times.
Personally, I wish Davis all the best. Davis also has returned three kickoffs for touchdowns in his career.
The Packers are now 16th in the National Football League in terms of rushing yards per game but have struggled to find the end zone with only two rushing touchdowns on the season. They do remain among the top favorites at this point in the season despite the fact that they are just 3-2 to date.
