Don’t care two hoots about Speaker Paul’s support
The Associated Press reports a Trump spokesperson says the Republican presidential nominee has a rally set for 7:00 p.m. next Monday in West Allis, at the state fairgrounds.
“Asked and answered like 10 times in the last week and the answer’s still the same”, said Sen.
Republicans now control both chambers of Congress. In the days that have followed, a number of women have come forward accusing the nominee of assaulting them after Trump dismissed his comments as “just words”.
Clinton also pushed her economic platform, vowing, “We’re going to lift families out of poverty”. She said Trump greeted her in “a sing-song voice”, then emerged from a back room dressed in a suit and kissed her “open-mouthed, pulling me towards him”.
Ryan did not make any direct reference to Trump in his speech but said he wished the campaign was focused on issues and not “all the mudslinging and the mess that’s out there on TV”. John McCain of Arizona, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and Rob Portman of OH, all of whom are up for re-election. John Thune of South Dakota, a member of the Senate’s GOP leadership. There still are some three dozen GOP lawmakers who have withdrawn their support or are calling for Trump to step aside.
John Thune of South Dakota, the third-ranking Republican in the Senate told the Rapid City Journal he had “reservations about the way (Trump) has conducted his campaign and himself”. Trump has since apologized for the remarks.
Ryan’s announcement that he won’t defend his party’s presidential nominee and that GOP candidates should choose their own paths to victory – with or without Trump – has led some Republicans to suggest they may not back Ryan’s re-election as speaker. He did not mention Trump.
Speaking in Columbus where he was the featured speaker at an annual dinner benefiting Ohio Democrats, he said: “When finally the guy they nominated and they endorsed is caught on tape saying things that no decent person would even think, much less say”. Trump supporters are fully behind their candidate, claiming the Clinton campaign is behind the attacks.
No details have been released about where Trump planned to campaign on Monday.
The last time Trump was in Green Bay was in August, when he endorsed Ryan after weeks of refusing to so ahead of Ryan’s primary election. Still, only 27% believe party leaders want a Trump presidency, compared to 20% in the previous survey.
“And if those are the two options, given what is at stake with the Supreme Court, the southern border of the United States and Obamacare, I’ll be standing with Donald Trump”, the congressman said. His remarks were a major topic in the second presidential debate on October 9, during which Trump tried to turn the attention to past accusations of sexual misconduct by President Bill Clinton – claims largely ignored by Hillary Clinton during the debate.
