Early voting options are also expanded this year after a federal judge struck down the state’s limitations on when and where clerks can conduct in-person absentee voting. Many were busy just trying to put their lives back together.
The voter said she had voted a straight Republican ticket, but when the final review page of the ballot came up on the electronic voting machine, it showed her voting for Democrat Hillary Clinton for president. Towns such as Lumberton and Tarboro were inundated. Many states use systems that would be hard to hack or defraud, including paper ballots which initially are tallied by machines.
“I really am concerned about this state”, she said after waiting an hour and a half to cast her ballot. Others sounded determined to do so. As long as voters are in line by 7:30 p.m., they’ll be allowed to vote. Most it it seemed to be caused by misunderstandings based on either old polling places or from the changes to polling places. “Whether people will heed it, I don’t know”.
King County voters also will begin receiving their voters’ pamphlet in the mail this week. Almost 3 million votes have been cast already, far outpacing the rate for this period in 2012.
Eligible voters may register to vote or request a replacement ballot at the county clerk’s office during regular office hours, on October 29 and November 5 from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m., and on Election Day at one of the three polling places.
About 552,000 registered voters live in the six North Carolina counties that got the brunt of the storm, with just over half of them Democrats. There was some confusion on the first day of early voting.
A processing issue at post offices in some areas of Hays County is believed to have led to some completed ballots-by-mail to be returned to residents, according to the Hays County Elections Office.
“One of the reasons we are encouraging early voting is if you wait until election day and you go to your assigned polling site then you can probably expect to wait”, said Tarrant County Election Administrator Frank Phillips. The voter must complete the application.
Minnesota’s top elections official says voters should have confidence in the state’s ballot-counting system. “We hope that their words will inspire more New Yorkers to take part in the election on November 8”, said CFB’s Public Relations Officer Katrina Shakarian.
Voter outreach groups are mobilizing to help. Municipalities are required to offer early voting in at least one location during regular business hours, and local officials have the discretion to add extra sites and hours.
