Hillary Lindsey Joins Lady Gaga on ‘Saturday Night Live’

The release is less decorated than her previous work, particularly her 2013 flop “Artpop”, not especially danceable and nothing remotely like her 2014 duet album with Tony Bennett, “Cheek To Cheek“.
The Gaga regime is once again blasting forward with the release of “Joanne”. The results are rather mixed.
This year has been full of weird and edgy ways to promote albums (we’re STILL reeling from Beyonce’s surprise drop of Lemonade…), but Lady Gaga’s tactic is perhaps the most novel.

But whereas once she would have exhorted Just Dance, for the more mature Gaga, a night on the town is instead an occasion for female bonding. No gimmicks, no costumes, no shock tactics – just talent.
The missteps in Joanne mostly occur when Gaga attempts to tackle slower, more emotional material. The album’s lead single “Perfect Illusion” features some of the album’s smartest songwriting, but becomes messy with grating guitars and an nearly ironic final key change that actually hinders the song further.
However, when your entire image depends on looking unusual, you will always have an ace in the hole – looking normal. “Grigio Girls” is laced in country roots, with Gaga even altering her voice to make the impact all the more forceful. She joins previously announced show opener Bruno Mars and “The American Music Award of Merit” honoree and performer Sting. “It’s just my brand of pop”, she said, explaining how she doesn’t want Joanne to be just known as her so-called country album.

Ultimately, Joanne is a polarizing album. “Not one”, she said.
