Start time for Game 2 of World Series moved up an hour
Rain is forecast so the game will start an hour earlier than originally scheduled. Amazingly, after the game Kluber said he didn’t have a good feel for his breaking stuff.
“I think that if you go into our clubhouse, though, you’ll see 25 guys, coaches, trainers, and the front office that are perfectly content with where we are and how we got here”.
The Indians intend to bring Kluber back on short rest in Game 4, and again in Game 7 (if necessary), so Francona wanted to save some bullets.
“We can handle that”, he said. “I’m just playing with a lot of confidence right now”. I’m going to be locked in. “So it doesn’t really matter”. He sliced the finger earlier this month while fixing one of his many drones.
Perez drove in four runs – he became the first No. 9 batter to homer twice in a Series game, and the first Indians player to accomplish the feat. Boston manager Bobby Valentine suggested he work from the stretch fulltime to lessen the movement of his big frame, and Miller injured his left hamstring on his third pitch in an exhibition game against Toronto.
I mean, I asked our bullpen catcher, I said, “You don’t happen to have your cell phone on you right now so I can snap a picture of this?”
The Cubs lineup is as deep as it gets, but it was the meat of the order doing most of the series-tying damage, as 3-4-5 hitters Anthony Rizzo, Ben Zobrist and Kyle Schwarber all reached base three times on a cold, dreary October night. After stifling two risky lineups in Boston and Toronto during the AL playoffs, Cleveland shut down a hard-hitting Cubs team that scored 23 runs against the Dodgers in the final three games of the NLCS. He then led the Indians to a Game 1 win.
The Cubs will start Cy Young victor Jake Arrieta against Cleveland’s Trevor Bauer, who left his last start after blood began gushing from his pinky finger that was injured while he was handling his drone. At hand, the Cubs have superior starters set to go in each of the next two games, starting tonight with Jake Arrieta.
1975: With Cincinnati leading the series 3-2, the Reds and Red Sox had to wait out three rainouts before Game 6 at Fenway Park. “That being said, it’s probably come a little heavier than we expected already. I’m going to be ready to go (and) try to win this”. The Cubs haven’t played in one since 1945 and haven’t won since 1908. Two, it might rain. Three, we could have a lead and he won’t be available for as much. Opponents were safe on 23 of 26 stolen base attempts against Arrieta during the season and manager Joe Maddon is considering using Willson Contreras at catcher instead of Miguel Montero, who typically catches for Arrieta. So there were a lot of positives with that. The only time they got hits was when I didn’t execute my pitches.
Corey Kluber did exactly that for the Cleveland Indians in Game 1, helping his team jump out to a one-game lead. Coghlan struck out in both his at-bats.
“I thought the bat speed looked good”, Maddon said.
Schwarber is the franchise leader with five career postseason homers. Rob Zastryzny, a lefty, was drafted in the second round three years ago, and all of the other pitchers the Cubs have used this October came via trade or free agency.
