#1 Alabama Dominates #9 Tennessee For Convincing 49-10 Victory
The Tennessee Volunteers host the Alabama Crimson Tide in week 7 of the college football schedule on Saturday, kick off time at 3:30 PM ET, at Neyland Stadium.
This marks Tennessee’s fourth straight game against a ranked foe.
The Third Saturday in October needs to be designated for something else until Tennessee beats Alabama again.
As would be expected, Alabama dominated statistically.
Tennessee has one of the best pass-rushers in the game, defensive end Derek Barnett.
594: The total number of yards Alabama had against the Vols. Tennessee had 163 total yards.
Both teams suffered an interception.
Alabama had a fumble return and an interception return for TDs last week. Nor could Tennessee’s runners, who were held to under 40 yards on Saturday afternoon. Damien Harris rushed for 94 yards on 14 carries.
Hurts was 16-26 passing for 143 yards, Bateman 1-1 for 13. Lock was just 4 of 18 for 39 yards. It was Tabor’s second pick six in as many years against the Tigers (2-4, 0-3). No. 10 Nebraska is at IN, while No. 4 MI is off this week. Involved in 3 tackles each were Eddie Jackson, Christian Miller, and Keith Holcombe. Dobbs also had 17 carries for 57 yards against A&M. Alabama leads the series 52-38-7. If the Vols want to play from behind again today, they’re going to be in trouble against the Tide.
The lead could have been much more.
Junior Alvin Kamara, who had more than 300 all-purpose yards in a two-overtime loss at Texas A&M last week, gained 35 against the Tide. The backup guy that comes in needs to be ready to play.
“I hate it! Mainly because Alabama always gets the cigars, but if Tennessee gets the cigars this year that would be great”, said Katherine Haggard. Alabama meanwhile still has matchups looming against A&M, LSU and Auburn, but do you dare doubt them at this point?
The end result was another Tide win over Tennessee. Dobbs threw for 92 yards but ran the ball seven times for -31 yards.
Ronnie Harrison did the honors for his second defensive touchdown of the year. Hurts rolled right and rambled the distance untouched. But it’s a fact that Hurts, an explosive athlete, adds a whole different dimension to the Alabama offense with his ability to run the zone read, make people miss and also throw the ball on the move. The true freshman quarterback scored three rushing touchdowns.
The healthiest unit with the most depth on the Vols’ entire defense is the defensive line. Either that or he was looking for a high-five, or he was doing the “talk to the hand because the face ain’t listening” thing that was popular back in like 1994. The Crimson Tide has scored at least one non-offensive touchdown in its last nine games, dating back to last season. It was 28-7.
“That was our goal coming in, to score fast and get them exhausted”, Alabama tight end O.J. Howard said.
It didn’t stay that way for long. That’s what happens when you’re facing a 30-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Put Arkansas in the ACC Coastal, Big Ten West or Pac-12 South and the Razorbacks are the best team in the division.
Tennessee fans aren’t so fond of that particular tradition though.
Alabama has 11 non-offensive touchdowns – SC has nine offensive touchdowns this season. It was a dramatic one.
Jackson had earlier called a fair catch on a punt that Alabama had tried to block. He went up the middle, down the left sideline, and had no problem outrunning all UT defenders.
“Alabama with a running quarterback?”
