Flemington students get a lesson on Halloween Safety
Ghosts, goblins, and even Police Officers will be out and about in the City’s neighborhoods this Halloween.
While it’s important to worry about safety year-round, children are more than twice as likely to be hit and killed by a vehicle on Halloween than on any other day of the year, according to Safe Kids Worldwide.
With Halloween quickly approaching, parents are recommended to educate their children on the Halloween safety, to remain as safe as possible, while having a good time trick-or-treating. “Same thing, you want to make sure their costumes aren’t too long so they’re constantly tripping on them”.
Instruct your children NEVER to enter any homes.
If possible wear bright colored clothing to trick or treat. However, if they are used, make sure they don’t look real. Consider using face paint instead.
Don’t allow children to accept any homemade goodies.
Tell children to walk from house to house, rather than run. If you have to walk on the road, stay on the far edge.
With Halloween right around the corner, the San Angelo Police Department has provided several tips that can make this holiday a safe and welcoming environment for all.
If you are participating police say it’s important to turn on your porch lights and If you aren’t just keep them off.
The app has a Halloween Treat Map so people will know exactly who is giving out candy in their neighborhood. Walk on direct routes with fewest street crossings.
If a child is wearing a mask instead of make-up, make sure the eye holes are large enough to see through clearly.
Always stay in well-lit areas and carry flashlights.
Talk to your children about street safety. They remind drivers to be extra careful on Halloween night. Parents should inspect all treats collected by their children and dispose of any items that appear to be unsafe for consumption, such as unwrapped, partially opened, discolored or out-of-the-ordinary treats.
