Diwali is actually the third day of a five-day-long celebration full of tradition and ceremony and it is one of the few Hindu festivals that is celebrated in nearly all parts of India with equal vigour and enthusiasm.
Diwali or Deepawali, as it is popularly known in India, is indeed the biggest and the brightest festival celebrated in the country.
The festival of Diwali is one of the most widely celebrated occasions in India. Traders begin with the new accounting year followed by Hindu new year.
So I ask that we all take time during our celebrations to reflect on the source of our strength as a people – our unity, our camaraderie and our shared identity as Fijians. Diwali is one such time of year when the weather changes, the mood is upbeat and a spirit of abundance is around.
