Doctors say women need more education about this breast cancer risk

On Nov. 6, Yalif, whose work includes breast reconstruction for women with mastectomies, will run the New York City Marathon.

Friends are spending their hard-earned money on pink ribbon products, to support me and others. Breast cancer is most of the time believed to be a disease which only affects females, but males can develop it also.

Q: How did you connect running a marathon with supporting The Pink Agenda? “I got some video help from Paul Rudd and Jimmy Fallon “Don’t stop me now”, junior runner-up Andrew Dawson said. Once I did, it was very easy tying these two things together.

“When you find out that you have it, like I did, you must accept and seek the help to take the next step. I did a whole lot of saying other words, or focusing on other things or working really hard, or being really busy, and just not paying attention to it”.

Q: Why The Pink Agenda?

As African-American women, we must be especially vigilant about eliminating breast cancer risk factors. Local survivors are outraged over the suggestion saying it will confuse women. Since then, she says she has not had any problems, and just continues to look to the future. Those of us who have lost beloved family members to this disease, know how it feels to have an immediate family member diagnosed with any type of cancer.

Q: Why should breast reconstruction be an option for women? “She was incredible. I didn’t have to have radiation or chemotherapy, either”.

I remember vividly that first October after my diagnosis.

What are the warning signs of breast cancer? “A balanced budget should not come at the cost of a woman’s life”, she said. “Bless her”, he said”. However, almost 1,000 United Kingdom women still die of breast cancer every month. “After being diagnosed, I adapted the mentality, “if you’re going to pray don’t worry, if you’re going to worry don’t pray” said Maria Whack, Thyroid cancer survivor.

Using a mammogram or ultra sound for guidance, a breast radiologist uses a thin needle to place the seed into the breast to mark the exact location of the cancer.

Q: Are you ready to run a marathon? They order tests and treatments that are not really needed sometimes. Hopefully by sharing the facts I can offer you a level of comfort and understanding of the mammography experience.
