Early Voting Continues in Brown County
Some voters said they waited more than an hour to cast their vote, but despite the inconvenience, more people are choosing to cast their ballot before Election Day than ever.
But the two periods aren’t the same.
Clinton, the Democratic nominee, is scheduled to hold two rallies in Iowa Friday to encourage her supporters to vote early, and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, heads to OH on Saturday for the first weekend of early voting there.
Last week’s announcement that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was reviewing emails that may be pertinent to Clinton’s email troubles likely won’t affect voting here, said Jack Pitney, a professor of politics at Claremont McKenna College.
The complaints have largely been about long lines, malfunctioning machines, perceived voter intimidation and the distribution of inaccurate information about voting rules at early-voting sites around the country, said Clarke of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, which is spearheading Election Protection’s efforts to safeguard voters’ rights in this election with hotlines, field monitors and voter education. More than 15.5 million votes have been cast so far – far higher than the rate in 2012, according to Associated Press data.
The Virginia Department of Elections reminds voters they have until 5 p.m. today to request that an absentee ballot be mailed to them for the November 8 general election. This week continues with 331 more people voting as of 1 p.m. on Monday.
In anticipation for a possible record turnout, Travis County has added more early voting sites: a total of 30 permanent early voting sites, 91 mobile locations and four mega site locations. At this point in 2012, black voters were 30% of the electorate. The rest are categorized on the Civitas website as “other”.
The Peach State doesn’t register voters by party, so it’s impossible to know whether more Democrats or Republicans have voted. Republican officials have already proved that officials can violate clear court orders with near-total impunity. Although their votes will not be counted until the day of the election, registered Democrats are outstripping Republicans in some key areas. This year, early voting will last eight days and there are 20 more polling places than four years ago. But the number of early polling places increased statewide from around 250 to almost 400 last Thursday, and political experts expected a resulting rise in ballots. Meyer said 140 people have requested issues-only ballots.
Pennsylvania, along with a dozen other states, does not have early voting. “People that have died 10 years ago are still voting”.
About one-third of Ohioans voted early in 2012. That is a 23 percent increase in voters casting absentee ballots.
“We are encouraged by the turnout at the early voting locations and appreciate the patience and participation of Los Angeles County voters”, Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan said in a news release. “In fact starting this past Tuesday we started taking out ballots and scanning them into the system”, said Vu.
Registered Republicans are leading in returned ballots by about 11,500 – a 1.7 percentage-point-edge over Democrats out of 682,000 votes cast so far. The RealClearPolitics average of Florida polls shows Trump with a 0.5 point advantage over Clinton.
Republican Gov. Pat McCrory is up, 48 percent to 47 percent, over Democratic challenger Roy Cooper. The victor will succeed Democratic Sen.
