Prescott rallies Cowboys to OT win over Eagles 29-23
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Dak Prescott threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten in overtime to give the Dallas Cowboys their sixth straight victory, 29-23 over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Most flags were warranted, but, in the first quarter, when they flagged Jalen Mills for inconsequentially touching Cole Beasley 9 yards downfield it underscored the complaint that officials are calling things too tightly. And he elected not to call timeouts for a final chance after the Eagles sacked Prescott with 30 seconds remaining.
Wentz finished 32-43 for 202 yards and a touchdown. “I do think like all veteran QBs he knows how to make a business decision and not necessarily take a hit”.
Prescott was largely not good in this game, but started off the Cowboys’ scoring with a rushing touchdown and had a 10-3 lead into the second quarter. While the Eagles themselves are coming off an impressive win of their own, handing the Vikings their first loss of the season last week.
Prescott had some terrific plays in the first half but also committed that costly turnover.
The Raiders (6-2) had two chances to win earlier and squandered both on missed field goals by kicker Sebastian Janikowski, including a 52-yarder in overtime.
“Dak had his challenges”, Jones said, “but when it really mattered – not that the whole game didn’t matter – he came through”. He had just 78 yards after averaging 117 per game in regulation.
Then Wendell Smallwood fumbled in the fourth quarter, setting up a Cowboys’ field goal.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Jonathan Stewart ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns, Thomas Davis returned a fumble 46 yards for a score and the Carolina Panthers snapped a four-game losing streak with a win over Arizona.
Caleb Sturgis missed his first field goal of the season, all the way back on September 11 against the Chicago Bears.
The Eagles lost the coin toss in overtime, and they never got the ball as Dallas drove down the field for a touchdown.
This five-yard penalty against Sturgis would have given the Birds a fourth-and-one at Dallas’ 7-yard line. Prescott then waltzed into the end zone from 7 yards away to put the Cowboys ahead 7-3.
Elliott burst through a hole in the middle of the Eagles’ defensive line for a 15-yard gain.
The Cowboys take the first of their yearly battles with the Eagles, 31-21. Nearly inexplicably, Pederson didn’t give Sturgis a chance to attempt a 53-yarder in the fourth quarter that would have extended the Eagles’ lead.
But part of the problem was that the Eagles’ defense lived up to its reputation. Sproles contributed 23 yards in two receptions.
Still, the Eagles couldn’t stop the Cowboys as Dallas once again moved down the field quickly. But our guys have just got to come ready to play.
One nearly expected the Cowboys to take a knee just to slow down.
The Cowboys go into the game leading the NFC East with a 5-1 record. Prescott was 5-for-13 for 118 yards and one pick. On the defense, Philadelphia is allowing 14.7 points and 307.0 yards per game against the opponents. Prescott was also just a beat late on several passes. Not only did the Cowboys squander a likely touchdown or near-certain field goal, the Eagles were able to march down the field in 1:26 to get a 55 yard field goal to take a three point lead into halftime. The Eagles later got the ball back after punting when Dallas was called for too many men on the field. The Eagles couldn’t hold the lead, however.
