Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd transferring, Jones says
“Jalen has informed me that he intends to transfer”.
SEC Network’s Greg McElroy, who played quarterback at Alabama from 2006-2010, is highly critical of the timing of Hurd’s decision.
Hurd, a junior, has had an injury-plagued season and didn’t play in the second half of Saturday’s 24-21 loss to SC.
Coach Butch Jones confirmed Monday that the Volunteers’ leading rusher this season (as well as each of the previous two) plans to transfer at the end of the season.
“I don’t think it’s shaken us at all”.
Also, on Monday, former Tennessee wide receiver and radio host Jayson Swain said on his program, The Swain Event Monday, that Hurd reportedly meant to leave the program.
Tennessee (5-3) hosts Football Championship Subdivision program Tennessee Tech (3-5) on Saturday. There is not much to say about the game Tennessee should win this game handily. He praised Hurd, supported the player’s decision and wished the young man nothing but the best.
No one knows what exactly is happening in Knoxville, and it is making for quite the entertaining spectacle…unless you’re a Vol for life, of course. “We had a good work day yesterday and we’re excited to play this week”.
The Vols fell to South Carolina Saturday, 24-21. Kelly said other players would need to step up with Hurd’s absence. “But that team meeting is over”.
“We had some missed tackles”, Kelly said. He’s really going to get a chance this week to prove himself. Hurd had entered this season averaging 4.7 yards per carry. We’re still a team. “People were in the right position but didn’t make plays”. Vanderbilt is obviously a bottom tier team in the conference as a football school, but in terms of pure playing opportunity and the chance to stay close to home they can’t be ruled out completely.
