Bills RB McCoy questionable with hamstring injury
But he has worked hard to back into Gase’s good graces.
Faster than you can say Jay Ajayi – or maybe it’s “Jay Ajayi?!” – the Miami Dolphins have turned their season around.
“It’s insane to imagine it’s happening so fast like this”, Ajayi said.
For the second straight game, Ajayi rushed for over 200 yards as the Dolphins beat the Bills 28-25 on Sunday. The Dolphins were up 21-17 and would’ve given Buffalo (4-3) a shot at a late lead if not for Tannehill connecting with Stills on third-and-six from their own 34-yard line. From there, Taylor completed a third-down pass to Reggie Bush, another third-down pass to Justin Hunter, and eventually kept the ball himself on a 10-yard touchdown run. The Bills are also on a four-game winning streak since making the move at offensive coordinator and are looking to get a crucial division win against the Dolphins on Sunday.
“I felt fine”, McCoy said, via the team’s website. “That’s my biggest challenge – just staying with it”. He was unstoppable. Give Ajayi credit because he did a great job of being patient on the stretch runs and waiting for a hole to cut upfield through or to cut back into for big yards.
Until a panicked, late game drive, the Bills’ only touchdowns came after being set up in plus territory after a 12-yard Miami punt and a blown coverage by Byron Maxwell.
A block by Dolphins receiver Landry caused Williams to miss the second half with a head and neck injury. Buffalo came into the game as a decent run stopping unit.
When No. 1 wideout, Sammy Watkins, went on in-season injured reserve with a foot injury, the Bills were left with a pedestrian receiving corps. However, McCoy said his injury this week was “not almost as bad as [last year]”.
After sustaining a hamstring injury in practice earlier in the week, McCoy, who came into the contest ranked second in the National Football League in rushing yards, was held to a meager 11 rushing yards on eight carries before being pulled from the game after re-aggravating his injury. A well-placed source told ESPN’s Josina Anderson on Thursday that McCoy would not play against the Dolphins.
Since the Dolphins pretty much said Ajayi you’re the heart and soul of our offense, Tannehill wasn’t asked to do as much as he was earlier in the year. “This is something that just takes time”. The Dolphins used up 7:32 of the first quarter on the drive. Damien Williams capped off the comeback with a rushing touchdown with under four minutes to play. One reason: 13 penalties for 116 yards. The Dolphins are now 3-4 and get a week off before hosting the lowly Jets on November 6. Miami improved to 3-4.
The Dolphins remain long shots to halt the reign of New England (6-1) in the AFC East.
