No. 1 Alabama, No. 15 LSU meet in Western Division showdown
The season keeps rolling on and the SEC rules above the rest at the moment with two teams in the CFB Playoffs Ranking top 4, and both of those teams are in action this weekend looking for big wins in the conference to help secure their spot in the CFB Playoff.
If only this year’s Tigers were ranked 14th in the AP or College Football Playoff polls to complete the coincidence.
Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. ESPN’s College Gameday will be featuring this rivalry on Saturday morning.
“This is a real challenge game for us”.
Through the first four games this season before Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron were fired after LSU’s 2-2 start, the Tigers averaged 147.8 yards per game passing with four TDs and three interceptions.
It is hard to fathom that Alabama leads the all-time football series against LSU with Bama having twice the number of wins as the Tigers.
On the ensuing possession, however, the Bulldogs drove 73 yards in a drive that was culminated by Nick Fitzgerald’s four-yard touchdown run with just over three minutes remaining in the game.
Here are some cold facts from Goldsheet.com: Alabama is 98-12 straight up in the past eight seasons, and 22-2 on the road since 2011 with 19 of those wins by seven points or more.
LSU had five touchdown drives of three plays or less, as the quick-strike Tigers shook off an unexpected week of rust to defeat Southern Miss, 45-10, on Saturday in Tiger Stadium. The Crimson Tide has outscored most of its opponents with just defense and special teams scores.
Will Leonard Fournette get revenge after such a bad showing against Alabama last season?
Washington quarterback Jake Browning has thrown 223 less passes than Webb, but almost has Webb matched in touchdowns, throwing 28 so far this year. Bama has won every game this season by double digits, except on September 17th when they defeated Ole Miss 48-43. Saturday he will face the nation’s best rushing defense. “Even when you’re at the store and you taking pictures with kids, they always say one thing, ‘Just please beat Alabama.’ It’s like, ‘Oh, man, ‘ they’re already thinking about this, and the game hadn’t even got here yet”.
Alabama DL Jonathan Allen’s 24 career sacks ranks third all-time for the Crimson Tide. “I think this is where we find out really just how much of an impact he is having”.
Last week was much like the week before, pretty much splitting the games of the week. “I’ve heard him this week”. The fans were kind of digging into him a little bit.
The Under is 9-1-2 in the Tigers last 12 games overall. He’s a big part of the Cal offense and one of the best pass catchers on the West Coast but he’ll have his work cut out for him as Jones is a potential first-round pick who has slowed everybody who he’s faced off with. His job will be to stop LSU’s Arden Key who is tied for eighth in the nation with eight sacks. Alabama won’t go away from what has worked all year-and last year against LSU. Orgeron and his staff have brought balance to this program, and we have seen them effectively move the ball through the air in each-and-every game since Les Miles was sacked.
Orgeron and new interim offensive Steve Ensminger have been more aggressive in play calling and throwing more vertical passes downfield. That could be key toward stopping an Alabama offense that strives on big chunks of yardage.
On the other hand, Saban views LSU as “an undefeated team”, which it is since Orgeron took over.
“I like the way LSU is playing”.
