Drake’s 96-yard kickoff return helps Miami beat Jets 27-23
As one of the league’s most prolific pass-catching running backs, there were plenty of reasons to expect Forte’s ability to catch the ball from anywhere in the formation to be a game-changing factor on offense, but that hasn’t been the case thus far.
New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick left Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins with an injury to his left knee. To say it is working out marvelously with Ajayi at running back would be an understatement. “I was trying to beat (Drake) to the end zone”.
It’s hard to miss Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, but Fitzpatrick did. He would go off tackle and find a hole at the line of scrimmage before exploding into the second level of the NY defense.
A botched Dolphins punt led to a touchdown that put NY ahead 23-20.
Miami (4-4) won its third game in a row.
Now several months removed from signing a one-year, $12 million deal, Fitzpatrick has resembled a shell of the quarterback who had the Jets in playoff contention throughout last season after throwing for 3,905 yards, 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. But Jets things happened on the ensuing kickoff, as rookie Kenyan Drake went 96 yards for the eventual game-winning touchdown following an offsides penalty against safety Antonio Allen on the previous kickoff attempt.
The Jets have the worst pass defense in the league through eight games. As far as I see it, it is the only right way forward.
“The great thing about (Marshall) is that he is a insane competitor, and he wants the ball on every play”, Fitzpatrick said. “Our relationship – we understand each other”.
With just under six minutes left, Ryan Fitzpatrick hit Jalin Marshall for an 18-yard touchdown to give NY a 23-20 lead. So is it time to look toward the future, and get some in-game evaluations of young quarterbacks Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg?
AFC East Free Pick to Click is a play on the New York Jets plus the points. “We were able to get a good game on the ground and we’ve just got to keep stacking these good performances together”. In the receiving end, Kenny Stills posted 10 yards and a touchdown in five receptions while Jarvis Landry added 78 yards in five receptions. That drive took 5:19 off the clock.
The payoff – a 29-yard field goal by Andrew Franks – was disappointing in a couple of ways. An AFC East rival with a chance to reach.500, as the Dolphins come off their bye week, could be exactly what Miami needs.
Miami settled for an Andrew Franks field goal. Devante Parker added 20 yards in three catches. Fitzpatrick threw the ball up for grabs, and cornerback Bobby McCain picked it off. There were Jets fans who wanted head coach Todd Bowles to be fired.
