Ravens Frustrate Roethlisberger in 21-14 Win Over Steelers
If he’s to avoid getting triple teamed, Brown could use a little help from the team’s other receivers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers gained their veteran quarterback but still lost control of the AFC North as they were bested by the rival Ravens in a 21-14 loss at Baltimore on Sunday. This resembled the days of Trent Dilfer and Kyle Boller, when Baltimore won in spite of its offense. The Steelers lead the AFC North with a 4-3 record. Lose again, and the Steelers could be looking at their first four-game skid since Weeks 1-4 of the 2013 season, when they last missed the playoffs. He was even better in the postseason, 57 passes for 1,054 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging a whopping 18.5 yards per catch. He threw an interception and most of his production came in the fourth quarter.
“It’s frustrating”, said Roethlisberger who threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Brown with 8:38 to play and scored on a 4-yard run with 48 seconds remaining to pull the Steelers within seven points.
Back in heyday of this rivalry, Suggs and teammates Ray Lewis and Haloti Ngata, as well as Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward, doled out punishment without compromise.
-Not counting his 1-yard touchdown run, Forte had 17 attempts that netted 3 yards or fewer, including 14 that gained 2 yards or fewer, including three negative plays. However, Steelers kicker Chris Boswell flubbed the onside the kick and Baltimore held on for the win.
Ben Roethlisberger suffered a torn meniscus against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on October 16, 2016.
Flacco had knee surgery last year and missed the final nine games of the year.
PERSISTENCE PAYS: The Ravens were allowing 69.7 yards per game on the ground prior to playing the Jets, who rushed 39 times for 155 yards and a touchdown. But, in truth, just about everyone – including the Ravens – had figured it out long before that. Pittsburgh should be fine whether he plays or not, especially moving forward. That would be a significant development for a struggling Ravens’ passing game.
The Ravens were poised to strike earlier in the first quarter but a penalty and Burns’ interception thwarted all of that. “You know, when you look up in the third quarter and there’s two first downs, it’s kind of frustrating and an empty feeling”. Additionally, Verizon Wireless subscribers can view the Steelers vs. Ravens live stream on their mobile devices for free. Ravens WR Mike Wallace, a former Steeler, had a season-high 10 receptions for 120 yards prior to the bye. 3.
Wallace slipped down the left sideline, hauled in the pass and outran safety Mike Mitchell for the first-quarter score.
KEYS TO THE GAME: The Steelers want to shut down the Ravens’ running game and put quarterback Joe Flacco in situations where he has to beat them. Backup quarterback Ryan Mallett temporarily took over.
It turns out he merely broke the protective brace on the knee, and returned to cheers after missing three plays. The Steelers would be an easier pick here if Ben Roethlisberger was healthy but he’s not. That led to another Tucker field goal and a 13-0 advantage for the Ravens.
