Snap Inc. Specs Pop Up in Coin Machines
It’s unclear how many pairs of glasses are available in the machine or how quickly they’ll sell out. Those who end up disliking the camera glasses have 30 days to return them. They cost $129 plus tax. To charge the sunglasses, simply use the charging case and cable that it comes with (the case can actually juice up Spectacles up to four times once fully charged).
Tech workers, social media enthusiasts, students and journalists flooded here first thing Thursday morning to get their hands on the coveted Snapchat Spectacles. Check out some of the promotional photos of the “Snapbots” below and watch a promotional video for the vending machine above.
Snapchat is looking way beyond filters. And Snapbot machines will have three buttons – teal, black, and coal – representing each color that Spectacles are available in. Make sure to be quick, because Snapbot’s only stay in one place for a day, and will be going to different spots on a daily basis. Presumably, that will take you to a map showing you where Spectacles-dispensing Snapbots can be found, though as of this writing, the page just features an animation of a sleeping Snapbot. On its Twitter feed, the Spectacles team has been re-tweeting messages about long lines at the Venice location (and people subsequently trying to re-sell their Spectacles for nearly four times the price to those in line and on eBay). Having to watch spectacles.com to hunt for its next location could aggravate some of the buyers’ frustration regardless of how they covet the device.
This will not only improve the sales of the company but, will also improve the user engagement with the company, helping in brand promotion.
Snapchat announced in September that it would start selling high-tech sunglasses with a built-in camera.
